About

James Birchall is a British writer, doodler and prolific tweeter from Burnley, Lancashire, who is currently studying Computer Science at Keele University.

After keeping an "ideas journal" for a number of years, James began posting his extended writings to his blog which gained positive feedback, spurring him to write more. He soon began expanding into writing short stories and poems as well as creating sketches and paintings, which, he says, "show a distinct lack of talent".

In 2014, James aquired the domain jamesbirchall.com and began creating the first iteration of the blog that you are reading today. Those original blog posts are not available to read currently although they may be released at some point in the future.

At university James is employed as a Digital Ambassador,  responsible for providing online content for the School of Computing and Mathematics, and he is also the Social Media Officer for Concourse, Keele University's student publication. As a student, James has a keen interest in web design, human-computer interaction and digital media.

James is a big fan of comedy, citing Tim Minchin, Russell Brand and Noel Fielding as his biggest comedy inspirations, stating "Tim brings the intelligence, Russell brings the anarchy, and Noel brings the art".

Over the years, James has supported a number of projects for various charities, including Cancer Research UK, UNICEF, the British Humanist Association, Glaad and Amnesty International.

A recent hobby includes collecting vinyls, mostly those of Jethro Tull, Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music, extending to David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Cream and Genesis.

In his spare time, James enjoys consuming media in all its forms (mostly Twitter), studying art and cooking. Basically, he is deceptively boring. He also sometimes imagines he is performing at Woodstock in front of thousands of hippies and pretending to be a rockstar.**
